Jeff Glover highlight reel
Here is a great clip of a little bjj guy from America. Its good to see a fast agile guy on the ground. While watching look at his feet controlling his opponents, as well as a twister and an awesome half guard battle at the 2:01min mark.

Pic of the week - Control
i decided this could be pic of the week because it shows why hold downs are so importnant. if you cannot control your opponent, you cannot armbar them. Control first...submission second.
A good definition i read of a hold down, was "hold downs are used to immobolize your opponent..once in control then submit them."

Submission of the week
i decided not to write what submission the fight was won by..so u have to watch and as you are ask yourself what you would do in this particular scenario (besides slamming them) as in self defence that would happen.
This vid is a good demosntration of the chess game that is bjj. judo is also a chess game but at a much faster level but bjj is slow and methodical. notice both grapplers were cool, calm and collected, obviosuly both very experienced players.

UFC 112, Go Matt, Edgar and Meia
Annderson Silva is a bit of a fruit loop. He is an amazing fighter with alot of skills but once agin showed no real tenacity to end the fight, he was happy playing the air guitar and taunting Damien meia with screams and crawling on the ground like a weirdo. But he still got the win.
Good on you Meia your a champ and its a shame you had to fight such a show boating idiot that didn't want to fight when all you wanted to do was play the sport of MMA not chase the guy round the cage for 25 minutes.
Frankie Edgar knocking off BJ Penn for the lightweight title. Edgar fought out of his skin and moved and moved and was a fantastic all round MMA Fighter. he threw kicks, punches take downs everything and nothing was the same. He seems to be a very smart, technical and very fit fighter and fought so so well.
Congrats to him.
Matt threw 1000 million leg kicks to wear out and TKO Renzo Gracie. Matt hughes did really show any real tenacity to win the fight, it seems like he will probably be at training today for his next fight. He really needs to step it up a notch and focus on his takedowns and ground and pound as he is one of the best at it. Not striking. But in the end he got the win over another Gracie so good on him. Go Matt.
Davis sinking in a deep deep Anaconda choke to finish the fight

Canto receives “black belt” Lula at Reação Institute charity project
Canto receives “black belt” Lula at Reação Institute charity project
This past Monday, the 8th, was historical for Instituto Reação(“Reaction Institute”), a project led by judo and Jiu-Jitsu black belt Flavio Canto. After nearly 10 years of charity work in the Rocinhafavela (low-income housing tract), the project gained high-level facilities at Rocinha’s PAC (Program to Accelerate Growth) complex. The 15-thousand-square-meter sports center will offer, in addition to judo and Jiu-Jitsu, volleyball, swimming and soccer, among other sports. Instituto Reação’s new home base will be a three-storey building with rooms for the education program, social assistance for parents and students, and a dojo of 300m2.
“The new seat of Instituto Reação is even better than I’d dreamed. It’s an honor for us to be given the responsibility of using these facilities as best we can for both sport and education. We are at the fund collection stage of the ICMS project, which has already been approved, so that we can equip the space. After that, the idea so far is to double the number of students, reaching 500 just at this one location,” said Flavio Canto, director-president of Instituto Reação.
President Lula visited the premises and was given a custom gi by the student Matheus. Governor Sergio Cabral and Mayor Eduardo Paes were also honored.
To close out an unforgettable day at Instituto Reaçãon, there was an inaugural training session in style, with around one hundred fighters and students of the project, the Rio de Janeiro state judo team, the army team, athletes and former athletes from the Olympic team, Olympic and World Championship gold medalists, as well as Pan-American and South American champions. Sebastian Pereira, João Gabriel Schlittler, Hugo Pessanha, Leonardo Leite, Marcelo Contini, Mario Sabino and Fálvio Miyata marked their presence, and, of course, Olympic medalist Flavio Canto, who conceived the project, and teachers Geraldo Bernardes, coordinator of the Reação Olympic program, Rio team coach Jucimar Costa and Major Calixto, the military coach.
“The training session at Reação’s new location included big names from domestic judo alongside future promises and some who are already on their way. The idea is to have more such training sessions to serve as inspiration for future champions,” added Canto
